Silk on a Tuesday

Somewhere along the way, silk got locked in the occasion-wear cupboard — taken out for functions, returned in a garment bag. That's a waste of a fabric that's light, breathable and takes ten seconds to make an ordinary outfit interesting. Here's the case for wearing silk on a day that doesn't matter.

The jacket that makes the argument

The Champagne Silk Jacket is our whole thesis in one piece: champagne-gold silk, mandarin collar, traditional frog-knot buttons, two patch pockets, a clean boxy cut. It can absolutely go over a kurta to a function — but drop it over a plain white tee and jeans and it turns a nothing outfit into the best-dressed-in-the-room, on a Tuesday, for no reason. At ₹1190, it's also the least expensive piece on our rail — the fabric everyone assumes is precious, priced below the linen.

How to de-occasion silk

Keep everything else deliberately ordinary. Silk jacket, cotton tee, denim, flat sandals — the contrast is the style. Dress the silk up with tailored trousers and it swings formal again; that range is the point. One piece, both registers.

Silk is practical, whatever its reputation says

Silk is a working summer fabric: lighter than most cotton, breathable, an insulator in air-conditioning and airy outside. The boxy cut keeps it off the skin, which is how silk stays comfortable in heat. The delicacy is overstated too — a structured silk jacket handles a normal day fine. Spot-clean, air it after wearing, keep it off wire hangers. That's the whole care routine.

Pair it back to the plain pieces

Silk shines hardest next to matte. Over the Washed Linen Wrap Top or with the Indigo Pintuck Linen Top underneath, the champagne sheen against slubbed linen reads rich and easy at once — texture contrast doing the work of jewellery.

Frequently asked questions

Is silk too delicate for daily wear?
A structured silk jacket isn't — it's worn over other clothes and takes far less friction than a top. Air it between wears and it stays beautiful.

Can I wash silk at home?
Spot-clean and air it as the default; a gentle cold hand-wash occasionally is fine. It needs washing far less often than you'd think, since it's a layer.
