Three Blues That Aren't Navy
Navy is the blue everyone owns because it's the blue nobody has to think about. Fair enough. But it's also why a wardrobe full of navy looks like a uniform. There are three other blues on the rail, and each does a different job.
Steel: the blue that behaves like grey
Steel blue has grey mixed into it, which takes the brightness out and leaves something calm. It pairs with everything grey pairs with — cream, charcoal, tan, white, denim — while still counting as a colour.
The Steel Linen Tie-Front Top is the piece: cropped, round neckline, three slim self-ties down the centre front, long balloon sleeves gathered at the cuff. Tie it all the way up, or leave the lower ties open over a cami. With high-waist trousers in cream it's an office outfit. With denim it's the weekend.
Storm: the deep one
Storm blue is darker and moodier — the colour of the sky about twenty minutes before it rains. It has the depth of navy without the school-blazer association, and it's noticeably kinder next to warm skin tones.
The Storm Linen Pintuck Top puts it on a sleeveless top with a finely pintucked front panel, a mandarin collar and a half placket with small wooden buttons. The tan of the buttons against the blue is most of the styling done for you. Ecru wide-leg trousers and sandals finish it. Under an open white shirt, it carries into the evening.
Cobalt: the bright one
Cobalt is the blue with the volume turned up. It's the hardest of the three to wear badly, oddly enough, because it's so clear — it doesn't go muddy next to anything.
The Indigo Dot Wrap Shirt is cobalt blue with cream buta dots woven into the fabric, not printed, so the pattern catches light from every angle. Short sleeves, Cuban collar, side-tie wrap closure, single chest pocket. The cream in the weave tells you what to wear it with: cream trousers for a day event, or loose over a plain tee.
How to choose between them
If your wardrobe is mostly neutrals and you want one step toward colour: steel. If you wear a lot of black and want something equally grounding: storm. If you want one piece that gets noticed: cobalt.
And if you want the traditional deep blue after all, the Indigo Pintuck Linen Top is there — but that's its own story, and we've told it already.
What goes with blue, generally
Cream over bright white. Tan leather over black leather. Gold or brass over silver. Blue and brown is the most underused pairing in Indian wardrobes — try any of these three with cocoa or russet and see.

Shop the editFrequently asked questions
Do these blues fade?
Cold wash, inside out, dry in shade. Hot water and direct sun are what fade blue; avoid both and the depth holds.
Can I wear two blues together?
Yes, if they're clearly different depths — steel with dark denim, for instance. Two blues that nearly match look like a mistake.
